Facebook iFrame apps redirecting to wall – My Solution

Since last week these apps Static HTML: iframe tabs, static HTML – iframe for Pages or any other related apps the fan only content redirect to the wall

The Issue

I created an Static HTML page on our http://www.facebook.com/rainbowsfanpage fan page

When users land on the page using this url http://www.facebook.com/rainbowsfanpage and link the page they get redirected to the wall

But, when the user uses the permalink for the app url http://www.facebook.com/rainbowsfanpage?sk=app_190322544333196 ( which shows the same page as http://www.facebook.com/rainbowsfanpage ) and like the page they are showed custom fan only content

Problem:

From the above issue you can see there is a redirect issue with Facebook fanpages.

Solution:

If we can redirect the users directly to the app URL every thing should work.

1st install another Static HTML page app ( click on this link and add it your page )

In the new Static HTML app add this code

If user does not get redirect to the custom app, you can include text and link to the redirect page

Replace YOUR_APP_URL with permalink for your Facebook App. Make sure you rename your new static html app (I renamed mine to redirect) and change your default landing tab to the tab you installed the code. In my case Redirect tab

Hope Facebook or Static HTML app finds a solid solution

What is Google Plus and how does it work?

What is google Plus?

According to Google, Google Plus is “Real-life sharing rethought for the web.”

Features included in Google Plus

Circle (Share what matters, with the people who matter most)

Circle = Grouping

You can circle or group people into different circles. The best part is that they don’t need to be in your friends list. You can add any one to any circle and receive their updates as a news feed. Just like the ‘follow’ in Twitter that allows you to read their updates

Hangouts (Stop by and say hello, face-to-face-to-face)

Hangouts allow you to have a video conversation with people in a circle. Similar to Chatroulette, except you meet people who you want to meet. According to google it’s the best thing on Google+.

I would use hangout because of its multi-person video or group video chatting. Now we can stop paying Skype or ooVoo for group video conversations.

+Mobile A.K.A Instant Upload, Location (Share what’s around, right now, without any hassle)

Take videos or photos of your mobile device and upload it straight away with geo-location. You can decide if your media should be private or public.

Google location services will provide a list of public location you can choose from (maybe) just like Foursquare

Sparks (Strike up a conversation, about pretty much anything)

Add your interests into Google Plus and Google Plus will return stuff that you want to read about on that specific topic. Why use bookmarking sites such as Delicious, Digg, Stumbleupon etc when you have sparks?

Huddled (Chat with groups of people)

Huddled is group conversation. Just like the ones you can have on MSN, Skype, Whatsapp or Blackberry Messenger or even like the upcoming iMessage.

So What is Google+ again?

Put simply, Google+ is a combination of popular web services in one big box.

Google Plus = Facebook + Twitter + Chatroulette + Skype + Digg + Foursquare + Blackberry + Other popular services you use on a day to day basis.

If you know how to use the above services, Google Plus will be painless for you to get started with. If you don’t, then the learning curve will be a steep one.

When will Google Plus be available to everyone?

Google Plus beta was launched on 28th June and was open to ‘invite only’ users (I was fortunate enough to be one of them). Later that week they stopped users from sending invitations due to the large amount of people wanting to have their hands on the Google product. Another reason to stop the inviation was to fix the beta problems that Google Plus had. According to Google’s Vic Gundotra – “Lots of criticism for Google+. We are listening and working to address. Stay tuned for changes this week.”

Invitation to Google Plus?

You want to use Google + ? If your friends are on Google + you can ask them to invite you.

  • Ask them to login in their Google Plus account
  • Scroll down the home stream and at bottom of right hand side bar they can find ‘Invite people to join Google+’ link
  • Click on that and add your email address.
  • You should receive an email with instructions

Google Plus is still in the beta stage and they have not given any dates for a full release. I am hoping it should be available by October – November 2011

This is the message i get on my Google Plus account

Here are some of the known issues in Google Plus – Click here

How popular is Google Plus

Google Plus One vs Facebook vs Twitter

According to a BrightEdge survey of 10,000 large sites, 4.4% had integrated Google +1 buttons whereas Twitter was only found in 3.4% of them. But with 20% integration, it’s clear that Facebook is still top dog.

Google+1 buttons can be found beside your search results in Google. Clicking on this buttons will add these sites to the +1′s tab on your profile and in the future may impact search rankings.

How to add Facebook Places to Fan Page

Facebook Places is becoming huge. They started Places to compete with foursquare. The current version of Places is basic and is fairly restricted. Your company might have an existing Fan page, but if a user wants to check in at your place using their mobile device, they will have to create a new venue or place. Creating new venue will automatically create a new, duplicate page for your business. This can be very frustrating. Luckily, we can now claim the place that was created and connect it to our Facebook fan page.

Step 1:

Create your place

Follow the instructions below to add Places on your mobile device (We are using the iPhone)

Adding Place On Facebook using iPhone

  • Step 1: Open iPhone app and select places
  • Step 2: Click on the check in button
  • Step 3: Search for your place
  • Step 4: Add your place if not available
  • Step 5: Name, describe & add your place
  • Step 6: Once added click on close & check in

Step 2

Claim the Places page on Facebook

Go to your place page on Facebook.

Claim your Facebook business place

  • Click on the “is this your business?” link below the logo on your Places page
  • A pop up will appear. Check the box and click on the proceed with payment button
  • A form will appear. Enter all the information in the form and at the end check the box and click on submit
  • You will have to wait couple of days for Facebook to approve your request

Note:
When we submitted our official documents (verification method 2) and email address, it took Facebook 24 hours to approve our request.
When we submitted only our Email address (verification method 1) it’s been over a day and Facebook still haven’t approved our request. I will update as soon as we are approved.

step 3

Merge your Facebook Places and Business Page together

  • Go to your claimed Facebook place
  • Click on ‘Merge with existing page’
  • You will get a list of all the pages you are admin of. Choose the page you want to merge places with & click merge
  • A confirm box will pop up. Click on Confirm merge.
  • Now your Facebook Places has been merged to your Facebook Fan page.
    • You will see lot of new options
    • New layout
    • Your landing page has been removed
    • Some of your old options have been removed
  • Depending on your Fan page you might get a ‘deal’ option

Note:
You can use the ‘deal’ option to promote offers to those that check-in at your place.
We will write a more detailed blog post on this once Facebook gives us more information on who it is that gets this option to offer deals.
